Denny has been with Aroma Care since June 2020, and over the years, our dedicated care workers have implemented numerous positive measures to enhance his quality of life. Here’s a glimpse into the incredible support Denny has received from our compassionate team.
Denny has faced various challenges, including financial abuse, self-neglect, alcohol dependence, poor living conditions, and leaving his home at 8am to sit and wait for his favourite pub to open- He would sit outside in all weathers, poor diet and nutrition. With the unwavering support from his care team, Denny’s life has significantly improved.
To help Denny manage his time better, our care workers bought him an alarm clock with large numbers. Now, he knows exactly when it’s time to leave for the pub, and our care workers ensure he gets there safely by taxi, rather than using his scooter. They also make sure he has eaten before he leaves and are there to greet him back at 3 PM to ensure he returns home safely.
Last year, during high winds, Denny’s gate was broken. Before we could report it, one of our carers took the initiative to fix it in his own time. We also discovered that Denny was being financially abused by a long-time friend. We reported this to Adult Social Care and, together, implemented money management strategies. Our care workers now support him with all his shopping needs, bill payments, and ensure his finances are secure.

Over time, Denny has built trust in the care team and now enjoys shopping for new clothes with them. This may seem like a small achievement, but for Denny, who previously resisted changing his clothes for long periods, it’s a significant step. Our carers support him in buying clothes, changing daily, and taking full control of his personal care needs.
Denny has lived in his home since it was built, as he would tell you “many moons ago.” The carpets, curtains, and electrics have never been updated. We have supported Denny by ensuring his house is safe with the help of the fire team, completing fire safety checks, and linking his lifeline directly to the fire service. Due to his high levels of alcohol consumption, he wouldn’t be able to alert for help on his own. We’ve also helped him upgrade his home appliances with a new kettle, toaster, and air fryer, enabling our carers to prepare more substantial meals for him, rather than just microwave meals. Additionally, we’ve provided new rugs since he prefers not to replace his carpets.
Denny lives happily at home, enjoying meals with his friends, often reminding him to eat instead of opting for whiskey. During his last doctor’s appointment, the care workers noted that he had gained some weight, and they were thrilled with his progress.
When Denny’s friend passed away, he didn’t want to attend the funeral alone and felt he had nothing to wear. Our team supported him in getting dressed up in clothes of his choice, accompanying him to town to buy them. We attended the funeral with him, ensuring he could say his last goodbyes without feeling alone.

Denny rarely leaves his house unless visiting his favorite pub. To introduce him to new friends and other service users, we brought him to our office to participate in our craft club, free of charge. He has made friends and is now enjoying new activities he wouldn’t have tried before.
