Norman Toseland: His words “ I am never going back to that home, I want to stay with Aroma care”
Since joining Aroma Care in March 2022, Norman’s life has been profoundly impacted by the dedication and compassion of our care team. Initially supported by one care worker and using a walking stick, Norman unfortunately experienced a fall, leading to a lengthy hospital stay and the need for increased assistance with two care workers. Living with Parkinson’s disease and an anxiety disorder, Norman faced numerous challenges.
One random Tuesday, Norman contacted our office, confused about his missing money. Our team promptly reported the issue to the bank, uncovering that his friend had been financially abusing him by tricking him into taking loans and finance agreements in his name. Collaborating closely with his allocated worker and the safeguarding team, we successfully supported Norman in paying his bills and completing his food shopping needs.
With no close friends or family to rely on, Aroma Care became Norman’s support system, ensuring he could live comfortably and safely in his own home. During a stay at a rehabilitation unit following a fall, Norman’s home suffered significant damage due to a water leak in his loft. Although the council investigated, they deemed the damage cosmetic and required Norman to fix it himself.
As time passed, Norman frequently called the office, longing to return home and see his friends (the care workers). A visit to Norman revealed that the discharge was delayed due to the need for home decorations. An email was sent out to the entire team, asking for volunteers to help decorate the property, rearrange furniture, and make the house habitable for Norman’s return.
The response was overwhelming, and the team quickly assembled to paint, fix the sink, take delivery of new equipment, and complete a food shop. Within two days, Norman was home and happy. Discharged in May with a full stand hoist, glide about commode, floor bed and crash mat, and bed wedge, Norman now mobilizes independently with the support of his zimmer frame.
